Our family and our dogs (!) loved our stay at CMD! It's a beautiful three-story home at the top of a hillside neighborhood. It's a quiet yet centrally located home. We spent time in Asheville and did several days in the Smoky Mountain Natl Park. The Maggie Valley location was central to both. This home has Plenty of space for the whole family. We were only 4 people, but I can definitely see how a larger group with various generations would be quite comfortable here. The central living and front porch are awesome for meals and coffee breaks. Another big perk of this beautifully decorated home is that there are basics available to you to get you started so that the grocery store is not your first stop the night you drive in! The toiletries and certainly the coffee were a welcome sight after a long drive in. We loved this home for our family vacation and would love to visit again. The owners were also super nice and responsive. Do not hesitate to book your family vacation at Carolina Mountain Dream!!

Owner Response: Robin, thank you so much for your review of Carolina Mountain Dream. We're so glad you enjoyed your time visiting the sites and came back to our place to enjoy some downtime gazing at the views from the porch. We hope to have you back as guests soon.

    • Beautiful views, awesome front porch!

Reviewed by Janet T. on May 27, 2017 for their trip during May 2017

We had plenty of room with several comfortable areas to simply relax. Our favorite had to be the long front porch with expansive views of the Smokey's and Maggie Valley. The comfort systems were working well, appliances, AC, lighting...it made for a care free stay. It was the 2nd highest home on the hillside, which was pretty cool for people from north Texas where everything is flat. The home was as clean as a whistle. The pictures are the real deal! We really enjoyed Maggie Valley (and it's restaurants, especially Frankie's), Soco Falls, Smokey Mountain National Park, Smokey Mountain Railroad, and the Biltmore in Ashville. If you happen to be by the Charlotte Airport, the Flight Museum has the complete 'Miracle on the Hudson' plane, shattered engines and all !

Owner Response: Thank you so much for highlighting some of the best features of our home. We're from very flat South Florida and appreciate the majesty of those mountain peaks and all of the surrounding natural beauty as well. We didn't know about the Flight Museum and will be sure to take a trip there to see Sully's plane, so thanks for posting that, too. Let us know when you're ready to return. You can always check availability on our website at MountainGetaways.net.

    • Luxury in the mountains!

Reviewed by Brad R. from Smyrna on May 09, 2017 for their trip during May 2017

My family and I loved everything about our stay. From the start, Marilyn was great about communicating info about the stay and local attractions, and provided a thorough guide about the best restaurants and things to do. Upon arrival, we were very pleased with the upscale touches in the home. If you're looking for a rustic cabin getaway, this place is not for you. If you're looking for a modern luxurious home, that just happens to be up in the mountains, then this is a great pick! Granite counters, stainless steel appliances, frameless shower, flatscreen TVs in each room, all very modern! Everything you need for a stay is provided for cooking, cleaning, laundry, plus towels, bath products, extra linens, etc. Very nice touch, compared to some rentals that require a stop at the grocery store for even the basics. We traveled with our children, and really liked that each one could sleep on a separate floor so that neither woke the other...plus adults in the master on main, also on a separate floor from each kid :) The upstairs bonus room was a great spot for the kids to play, and they enjoyed some of the toys and games in the house. What we loved most about the home is that it was close enough to town that it wasn't more than 3 or 4 minutes or so from the heart of Maggie Valley, yet it was far enough up the mountain that you have peace and tranquility on the massive balcony, with great views to the mountains. We spent tons of time just sitting in the rocking chairs looking out at those views! No complaints, thanks so much Marilyn for sharing your beautiful home! My daughter is already asking when we can go back!

Owner Response: Hi Brad, We are so happy to read that even though you only spent a couple of nights at Carolina Mountain Dream, you captured all of the benefits of staying there. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for letting future guests know all that is in store for them. Tell your daughter we welcome you back anytime!

We recently spent three nights at this wonderful house in Maggie Valley to celebrate my wife's birthday. The house was beautiful and had more than ample space for our family of five. However, I believe that I could have spent the entire trip rocking on the porch. The view is breathtaking! Marilyn was also great to answer questions and give recommendations on restaurants. If you are in the Maggie Valley/Cherokee area, stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Owner Response: Hi Bruce! Thank you so much for such a wonderful recap of your trip! I know we have a hard time leaving when we get the chance to stay there as well. We hope your wife was pleasantly surprised with your birthday gift and that you plan to return for other celebrations. You are welcome back anytime.

If two couples share the cost of a weekly rental, you can't beat the cost of under a hundred dollars a night. The home was very comfortable and we really used most of the amenities including the Weber grill. We ate all breakfasts and dinners at the house and we were gone most of the day to such attractions as white water rafting, the Biltmore Estate and floral gardens, the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiking trails, Elk viewing, etc. The weather really cooperated and we had perfect temperatures of 70's during the day and 50's at night. You may want to experience Everview in nearby Waynesville. I could use some new copy :)

we have stayed at a lot of places in the mountains due to riding trike motorcycles. would have to say this house being a 3 bedroom would make the top spot for being roomy. during our stay we rode our bikes in and out, gravel/paved road. was kinda steep but was no problem for us. house was clean, HUGE master shower and LONG front porch for viewing maggie valley. for any one considering this property i would say it is very nice and with motorcycles 3 wheelers are ok 2 wheelers must be a pro with the 1/4 miles of gravel. 2 door garage for cars not a SUV and bikes very nice in the mornings to keep the dew off the bikes. we will be staying here again next spring and fall. thanks for a nice home. ricky

Owner Response: Thank you for your wonderful review and we're so glad to know that the ride up wasn't that bad with the motorcycles. We enjoyed having you and are welcome to experience the next rally in the Smokies while staying at Carolina Mountain Dream.

Reviewed by Bryan L. from Hackberry, Louisiana on September 10, 2016 for their trip during August 2016

We were in Maggie Valley last Christmas (2015) and drove up to this house and were amazed by the view! We knew this was going to be our next rental! We were there the last week in August and it was everything I expected and more. When we were at the house, the majority of our time was spent on the porch/balcony enjoying the view. The house is great; loved the bedrooms, the master bathroom was awesome and love the open concept in the living area. I know they renovated earlier this year but I have to say they went cheap or the contractor cut corners. The floor has buckled in the center. If it were my house, I'd be pissed! The island is much too close to the counters and the fridge. I'd have it out much further. But it's not my house and we managed for the week we were there. We arrived on a Sunday evening and the first thing I had to do Monday morning was get a broom and get rid of all the spiderwebs on the railing on the porch! They were covered in spiderwebs and I don't deal well with spiders. They had to go, otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy spending time on the porch/balcony. Would I rent it again? Absolutely!!!! I'm going to paint our view so we'll always have it. Would I buy the house? No, because I want the sun on my porch in the morning and this house doesn't get the sun until late afternoon. During the time we were there, that was perfect because the daytime temps were in the 90's!!!! I miss Maggie Valley so much!!!! I can't wait till we make it our permanent home!!! Rent this house!!! You'll LOVE it!!!!

Owner Response: Thank you for taking the time to write the review about how you loved our home. We’re so happy that in spite of some of the issues you pointed out, you are encouraging everyone to rent. However, I would like to take this opportunity to address them. Had you spoken or written to me directly about them during your stay, I would have been able to explain what is going on with each one and resolve what I could. 1. Cheap is not a word I would use to describe our flooring. In fact, having installed this type of solid wood in our Florida home, we are very familiar with it and based on that, decided it was a good fit for our Maggie property. It is also environmentally sound, since bamboo can be replaced within five years helping to save the forests. The flooring was installed in early spring by a very capable and professional contractor who also did all of the other updates. The only explanation for some of the flooring separating from the floating base is that it has expanded with the warmer summer temperatures. As soon as our housekeeper mentioned this to us, we scheduled the repair. But it has been pending because we don’t have the few open days he needs to do the work until mid-November. I apologize for not mentioning this to you prior to check-in, but will let all of our guests between now and then know about it. 2. We are the second owners of this house and not involved in its design other than the updates you enjoyed. Redesigning the layout of the kitchen was not part of our renovation project. The new kitchen appliances were the last items to be installed and are slightly larger than the previous ones. This minor loss of space was not anticipated and does not impede the use of any appliance. 3. Being on the side of a mountain does present our mingling with certain bugs/insects at times, spiders being one of them. We are aware of this and have a contract with Orkin who sprays on a regular basis. Although no one else has mentioned it being an issue this summer, I will have Orkin re-inspect the entire perimeter of the house and treat it as necessary. As communicated in our check-in instructions and in various locations around our home, we ask that guests contact us immediately if there is anything that we can do to make your stay everything you expect it to be. We would like to correct it in a timely manner rather than risk having you disappointed with anything about our home and delaying any action we have to take in order to fix it.

The views are spectacular and while located up on the mountain, it is so near to the main part of Maggie Valley itself and all that's offered there. While staying here, we frequent Lake Junaluska, Waynesville, Cherokee, and the Great Smokie Mountains. The Butlers are wonderful to work with. We highly recommend this property for all of the above reasons.

We have been travelling to Maggie Valley for ten years now with our children during February "in search of snow", and have stayed in many different places. This house definitely ranks at the top. The location was good ~ close to skiing, restaurants, etc. The house itself is very nice, well maintained, spacious and comfortable. And also, which is so important when dealing with a rental, the owner was VERY gracious, helpful, and available. We really appreciated that!

Owner Response: Well, if you didn't get enough snow on this visit, make sure to come back next year. Also, the spring, summer, and fall are just as great! It was a pleasure to have you as our guests. You're welcome anytime.

Reviewed by Anonymous on January 10, 2015 for their trip during January 2015

This home perfectly accommodated our group of 9 adults for a weekend ski trip. Spacious and yet still very cozy and all the amenities listed are there plus plenty of games and tv, DVD etc for evening time. The location is very convenient to Cataloochee ski area. Marilyn was very responsive and helpful. My favorite was to sit with my coffee on the porch early morning and take in the stunning view. My only points were 1) the lower level bedroom was pretty chilly but I had brought extra blankets so not a problem and 2) if you have a big group, and plan to cook, you may want to bring serving dishes. We couldn't find any big ones, oh and a knife sharpener : ) thanks for the wonderful stay!

Owner Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at Carolina Mountain Dream. I appreciate you letting me know about the lack of serving pieces. Unfortunately, sometimes time constraints make it difficult for our housekeeping staff to verify that all supplies are on hand and some items may break or "disappear" and they may not realize they're missing. But I will make sure that it is corrected and although I never thought to get a knife sharpener, I will add it to the shopping list as well. And yes, the lower lever is always going to be cooler which is welcome in the summer, but does require an extra blanket in the winter. Glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you back at Carolina Mountain Dream again.

Reviewed by Kelley Family from Kentucky on December 28, 2014 for their trip during December 2014

This house is very spacious and has lots of room. It was well stocked with lots of towels, sheets, etc. The view was nice and it was quiet and peaceful. Being able to bring our dogs was a major plus. We all enjoyed our stay there. The only negative things I can say is that most of the pillows in the house need to be replaced. They were lumpy or flat and not real comfortable. The other thing is having to take trash to a pickup station which is a few miles from the house. That was a pain since they only have certain hours and it was the Christmas holidays (husband and son-in-law tried to take it Christmas day, but they were closed and locked up). Good thing we stayed until the day after Christmas or we would have had to leave it and be charged the $25. All in all the rental met our expectations.

Owner Response: Thank you for submitting your review. I only get to visit our home once or twice a year, so I depend on feedback from our guests to know when something isn't quite as expected. I appreciate you letting me know about the pillows and will look into replacing them right away. Sorry but I can't do anything about the trash pick-up, though. Garbage trucks are not able to maneuver the mountain roads and all residents and guests must dispose of it themselves. A little bit of a trade off in life in exchange for the spectacular mountain views at 3000 feet elevation. I would like future guests to know that I provide a list of trash sites with their hours and days of operation, so that garbage can be disposed of during your stay as you travel around town doing your sightseeing or other activities. You and your family took very good care of our home and are welcome back anytime.

We had four adults and two young girls and there was plenty of room for everyone even for someone in need of a place for peace and quiet. Marilyn is extremely easy to work with and will respond quickly if you have any issues or questions. We even received our maintenance deposit refund within several hours of checkout! If we return to the area we would definitely try to stay here again! If not possible we would consider renting the other house they own in the Waynesville area referred to as EVERVIEW.

Your home was perfect. It met our expectations in every way. The interior was cozy and inviting — just what was needed after long days of hiking. The view from the deck was exceptional — we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine in the evenings rocking back and forth and taking in the beautiful scenery to include the two love birds on the branch of the tree just off the deck, the bumble bee who dropped by for a pit stop to clean itself every evening at the same time and the badger out for its evening meal keeping a close eye on us between bites. Our son and daughter named the badger after my daughter's boyfriend. It was cute. She thought she could go pet it. The badger wasn't very amenable to her entreaties, as you can well imagine. It quickly waddled (their scampering is adorable) into its homemade den at the bottom of the slope. And speaking of scampering, my wife caught a quick glimpse of a black bear scampering across the Blue Ridge Parkway as we rounded a bend. Unfortunately, the rest of us didn't see it. Maybe next time! We might be making a trip back up to Maggie Valley this Fall so perhaps we'll check out your Waynesville home if we decide to make the trip.

My husband, mother, family friend and I truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home! Everything was clean, stocked and the location & view was out of this world, yet still private! Beautiful porches wrap this home for relaxing evening time. We enjoyed watching the badgers roaming around the hillside foraging for food. True 'perfection' with 3 floors so everyone had their own 'space' with a bathroom. Just to note..2 in our group were 81+ and they had no problem with the stairs. Also, TV's were located in each bedroom and also in the living area. Wonderful stove/oven with a charcoal grill downstairs for fixing a meal. What else can I say...space, space and more space and awesome views of Maggie Valley!

Owner Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am always so grateful to read how others have enjoyed our home. Guests have such varied viewpoints and I think you have captured the essence of what we try to offer everyone. The spaciousness of the home and the chance to just sit back and take in the wonderful views that surround it. I hope to hear from you again in the future.

Everything we needed was there when we arrived. We felt at home the entire time. I would not recommend this for a person that has a baby that is new at walking because there are lots of stairs to manage.

And yes, after raising two babies of our own in a two story home, we know what it's like to be concerned about them heading towards the stairs. I wanted to write and let you know how much we enjoyed your beautiful home over the past few days. My husband and I both agreed this was the first time ever that we felt a little sad that our time was up and we had to head back home. We are usually anxious to get packed and started on our way back home, but there was something different about this trip. And the difference was the peace and comfort that your home provided. It is truly the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. We enjoyed the scenic beauty of the layered mountains and just rocking, watching and listening to the birds. Next time we may choose to come for a week and bring several friends with us! We absolutely loved eating at Hurley's which was only within one mile of the house. Their food is very good and the owner and wait staff were extremely friendly. This is a quality restaurant with great prices, especially if you order from their Hurley Bird menu between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Also, Joey's Pancake House and Maggie Valley Family Restaurant's food was great! We had zero complaints about anything we did while visiting these places.

Owner Response: So glad you enjoyed your getaway to the mountains. Looking forward to having you as our guests again soon.

I had the honor of staying at this home both in 2006 and 2007 for one week vacations with my whole family. The house is not only centrally located, but the views are spectacular. In addition, the home is very comfortable and inviting. We stayed in the Spring when it was cold and the heater and fireplace worked well keeping the house warm and cozy. We also visited in the Summer, and although the air conditioner is not really needed as much, it's available for your comfort. The wraparound porch overlooks Maggie Valley and is a great way to relax and spend time just talking with your family. But if you need some time away from them, it is spacious enough that everyone can enjoy a separate activity at the same time. There is plenty of room for up to a family of ten. Everything is clean and well-maintained. The mattresses are relaxing, all appliances worked well. Plenty of parking space for cars. The location is ideal in that it is close to Ghost Mountain, Cherokee, great family restaurants (especially Joey's Pancake House). It is located within reasonable driving distance from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. There's also the Catalochee Ski Resort nearby. We will plan our next trip in the Fall as we have heard the most magnificent foilage is in the western North Carolina mountains. And we will definitely be renting here again.

Owner Response: Thanks for writing, Emmy. I'm glad you and your family have enjoyed your time in Maggie Valley. We look forward to having you as our guests again.
